Amazing how they also had a drinker for a leader while they were developing, in the same sort of time frame, and period

The three F's
by A Paduan inthere was a program on yesterday evening on four corners, australia's leading public current affairs program.. it was on the exclusive bretheren, a group very similar to the jws; fundamentalist, literalist, authoritative, family splitting, assisting to deny shunned partners any child custody etc.
etc.. the group is smaller, and on that basis i think able to maintain more strictness.. those who left had a saying for what keeps others in - the three f's - fear, family, finances.

It seems very inappropriate, in that they don't respect the laws that don't support the cult.

As long as their is new light, there is no false religion
by JH in.
if the jw's can receive new light, why can't the catholics or any other religion also receive new light, that would bring them a little bit closer to the truth.. so, if jw's can have new light, why do they call the other religions false?
aren't they also entitled to receive new light somewhere down the line and maybe become even closer to the truth than the jw's are.. as long as a religion can constantly recieve new light, so can others, which means there is no false religion, just religions changing slowly from one belief to another either very slowly, or a little faster..

It is a diversion to say that the credibility of jwism relies on current light. Jwism applies current light as needed to shore up the fundamental belief - that other people are not as 'good' as them, and wrong, and not as deserving.
The "best people on earth" belief (as blind and incredible that it is) will use whatever doctrinal system needed - when the 'light' fails reason they don't care if black = white for now. Black = white will do just fine if you don't talk about it; the threat of being marked as apostate will suffice until more palatable light is available to support their exclusive arrogant hatred.

Am I angry? Hell, yes!
by Fatfreek inwhy are departing jw's bitter?
i say the bitterness is directly proportional to the amount of emotional committment we made to their teachings.
if we accepted them wholeheartedly, the bitterness was immense as we discovered the lies and coverups, while getting the blame on the missed date predictions, and seeing the ever-increasing legalistic structure of the society, not to even mention the shunning by loved ones who still remain.

I would say it has something to do with stolen life - being the victim of an organised effort to care f##&ing less about you and use you for a means to an end.

Focus Groups and Interviews of Jehovah's Witnesses
by JW_Researcher inthe following quote is found in a ph.d. dissertation that purports to have secured permission from the congregational overseer to conduct interviews and focus groups with congregation members.
this research was conducted in the usa.
this never would have happened in any of the halls i attended.

" I attended weekly theocratic meetings and a District Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses"
Who talks like that ?
Sounds like a jw or someone previously exposed to it - an independent would say something like "weekly religious meetings" - it sounds like an influenced use of language.

Will You React With Prejudice?
by Jamaican JW inwill you react with prejudice when faced with "absolute truth?
sometimes, an irrefutable "truth" can be spoken.
and yet, this statement or fact of "truth" can be glossed over or dismissed or not recognized by the community at large, because of preconceived ideas taught us and engrained in us, from our previous upbringing or training.

Since supposedly the bible encourages it.
It depends what you read into the bible I suppose
- rod of the Lord (to tell in truth)
- "with the rod of his mouth"
- " The Assyrians will be terror-stricken at the voice of the Lord, when he smites with his rod."
- rod of men (a punitive suffering that is physically incurred)
- jw use: a beating utensil
-----------------------------------------------------------
I fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.

Has the WTBTS got wise to the best way to make money?
by Gill inthere used to be several books released at every summer convention.
there also used to be two 'awakes' a month published.. now, there are few books released, only pamphlets and no effort to rewrite the 'revelation book', just a list of changes to 'put in yourself'.
the 'awake' mag is down to one a month.. so...has the wtbts finally realised that there is far more money to be made investing in the property market than there is to be made in printing books to a captive audiance?

I don't think being a wiseguy is the best way to make money, but it's efficient - standover tactics certainly do work.
They have obviously discovered the monetary benefits that are derived from running a protection racket.
